Hao Meng Art Studio is located in the rougher edges of Ang Mo Kio where workers hog the front, drilling and sawing. The studio reeks of nostalgia and history, colourful palette of tins and paint, and frayed, silverfish-bitten books for inspiration.
Ang Hao Sai a Singaporean artist, also founder of Hao Meng Art Studio in 1987, runs the studio together with his wife, son, Adrian and Laurence.
In keeping with the changing times, Ang branched out to commercial projects such as signages and props. This plan later expanded into a major business involving the building and painting of stage backdrops. Over time, as the cost of labour rose and new printing technologies became readily available, Ang switched to inkjet printing of photo-real posters as the promotion of new films shifted from large billboards to online platforms. The family business continues to thrive.
